Question: Why don't you offer more bandwidth in your hosting packages?

Excellent question! We wish more people would ask.

All JCS servers offer high performance Tier 1 bandwidth ONLY. Here's a basic summary of what that means:
  • Tier-1 is the optimum network backbone for reliability, stability, and scalability requirements. It provides minimal latency and fast connections to all points of the global Internet.
  • Tier-1 provides premium bandwidth only. The network is solely dedicated to managed hosting and is not shared with telecom services.
  • A Tier-1 network has constant network monitoring for latencies and intrusion.
  • Tier-1 provides a proactive network management methodology, improving network topology and configuration continuously.
This may seem a little confusing, and that's understandable! Smile However, to us "tech geeks" this means that your website isn't sharing space with much else. The entire system was built to be fast and reliable.

Many hosts today are offering 1000 GB (or even 5000 GB!) of bandwidth on a single shared hosting account for extremely low prices. How is this done?

It's called OVERSELLING - an ever-growing, industry wide problem. Overselling is when a company provides hosting plans that are unsustainable if all of its customers use the full extent of services advertised. We here at JCS do NOT oversell.

Companies that oversell have lots of fine print in their SLA (terms of service) that says if you use a huge amount of download bandwidth (videos, music, etc.) and this accounts for a large percentage of your bandwidth, then they have the right to cancel you, even without prior notice! They rely on the fact that you will never use 100 GB of bandwidth sharing HTML files. They setup your account and hope you use what every other average customer is using, LESS THAN 1 GB of bandwidth a month!

So why is high performance Tier-1 bandwidth important? Well, if you're not going to use a huge quantity than you should have the best quality. Our bandwidth is always there, always fast, and extremely reliable. (So reliable, in fact, that we offer a 100% network uptime guarantee - in writing!) This is where many consumers make the mistake. They simply look for the biggest number and think they're getting a better deal. When it comes to bandwidth, for 99% of all small businesses, quantity is not most important, QUALITY is.

And just in case you'd like to know, Tier-2 and Tier-3 are downstream customers of Tier-1. They are usually smaller companies and are over-subscribed. They may give you what looks like a good price... but longterm reliability, performance, and scalability will likely suffer. For piece of mind for your business, Tier-1 is a better choice in almost every case.
